Picking up the KEYS

Our appointment to pick up the keys at the Towers was at 4 this afternoon. We planned on getting them, going in and poking around, measuring and visualizing. But - of course - Matt forgot the measuring tape.

Just before we left:

Me: Are you bringing the measuring tape?
Matt: Yes.

Just after we left:

Matt: I forgot the measuring tape.
Me: Are you kidding me?
Matt: They'll probably have one there.
Me: Yeah, I think there's one in the kitchen drawer.
Matt: I mean in the office!
Me: No.

And there wasn't. Because I'm always right.

Anyway - we picked up the keys. And then we stretched out on the floor in each room to just enjoy being in our first apartment. Move in day is tomorrow - I think we've visualized enough to do an initial layout.

We hope to actually change out a lot of the furniture we have right now. Almost all of it is mine. The bedroom furniture is over 4 years old and composite, so it's started to peel and is just fake, fake, fake. Although I like brown, Matt has a really gorgeous back dresser with silver handles. I'm considering buying myself a matching vanity and us matching night tables to go as a set. But, first and foremost in our furniture needs: a new couch. I bought mine three years ago from Big Lots - it looks great, brown leather sleek. But - it's really made of Durahide, the most uncomfortable material known to man. For all the time I had it, I think I can count up on one hand the amount of times I actually sat on it.

Pictures of our empty place:

The kitchen from inside the dining room. There's an exit around the other side as well, into the foyer. There's a corner counter along the inside of that wall there and the refrigerator is hidden behind the wall.

A view of everything - the kitchen is to the left and I'm standing in the dining room. The living room will be to the right. You can also see the foyer and the start of the hall. What I love most about this apartment is the separation of the master bedroom from the living room. Matt can watch his TV and I can go to bed early like a grandma.

This is the alcove in our master bedroom. Off to the inside left is a decently sized walk in closet, which I am extremely excited about! We'll put our dressers in here to keep the actual bedroom uncluttered.

And this is the view of the master bedroom from inside the alcove.

Not pictured is the library/office, the bathroom with a shower stall instead of a bathtub (something that makes me SO HAPPY) and the various other closets.

We'll probably tackle the bedroom first. I'd like to do a light grey for the back, left and right walls and a teal for the wall with the alcove. The interior of the alcove will also be grey. And we'll mostly likely hang teal curtains and get a complimentary bedding set. With the exception of the black furniture to match this motif, that's about the end of it. I don't really like matchy, matchy, matchy - so I'll throw a ton more color in here with pillows and such. I have a big armchair too that's been in my family for 27 years. I covered it in dark blue for my previous apartment... but the cover is old and ratty. I'm thinking a nice bright color to cover it, like orange or red, will really compliment the rest of the room.
